| Description: | The North Alabama Whitewater Festival (NAWFest) dives into its 5th anniversary with a plash...of MUSIC, that is. With the start of a new year that seems to pride itself on change, NAWFest is no exception. Camping, sporting events, food, games, arts/crafts and music what more could you ask for in weekend-long outdoor festival? Known in the past as the southeasts leading outdoor, weekend-long, whitewater sporting event, this relatively new, yet innovative festival, ventures into un-chartered waters to shine a spotlight on live entertainment. Once merely the backdrop of NAWFest, 10 bands in 2 days, each bringing its own genre for an eclectic musical experience, live entertainment takes the lead in 2009. Festivities begin at 1 pm, March 20th at NAWFests home, Kings Bend in Cleveland, AL. "Think X Games meets Woodstock," says co-founder/co-organizer, Jeremy Adkins. "Sounding-off on our brand new, PRO SHOW SYSTEMS STAGE, are such bands as Branded X, Hem County Henshaw and the Incredible Sandwich, just to name a few, who will be backed by the sound system used at City Stages. NAWFest is setting out to prove that it is no longer the new kid on the block party, but a powerful live concert to be reckoned with. All walks of life can find something attractive about this years event. However, for those of you who attend for the kayaking competitions, not to worry, whitewater sports are still what sets this festival apart from all others in the southeast. This year is offering 200 of the sports best competitors in 5 challenging events and expecting a crowd of over 2500. Live music, amazing artists, local vendors, delicious southern food, alongside feisty whitewater competitions, make this year, the best ever. | |
